Canessa Park Reading Series and Gallery

Run by Avery Burns, Canessa Park is a gallery and reading space located on the top floor of a beautiful and sunny brick building at the edge of North Beach. There’s nothing like listening to a literary reading while surrounded by innovative art in a comfortable yet urban setting—–also a historical site, the old location of the notorious Black Cat. Yes, readings here are some of the most enjoyable in The City of literary events. Readings are every second Monday, featuring local poets and fiction writers like Laura Walker, Dana Teen Lomax, John Sakkis, Brian Teare and more. It’s a jump away from some of the best food and cafes in the city, so make your way to Cafe Trieste, eat at a dingy little italian restaurant, and make sure to hit up Specs’ Museum Cafe afterward for a drink.
